Narellan Community Congregational Church

NCCC Sunday School 2010

Heroes of the FaithWhat has Sunday School been up to?

Looking back over 2009

Last year was an exciting year – our Sunday School focused on real life mission work and missionaries.

We used a series of teaching DVD’s called “Heroes of the Faith” which are published by The Torch lighters. Our stories included the real accounts of people that were missionaries and who were willing to go to prison and die for their faith. People such as Perpetua, Richard Wurmbrand, Jim Elliot and Gladys Aylward.

As well, we learnt about Paul, the first missionary, and watched DVD’s about his life.

THE BIBLE CHILDREN”S PROJECT

Money boxes made by Girls Zone to collect our “Jobs for Bibles” money.

We had a curry lunch after church.

Greatest Gift - 09 - Bible SocietyOnce again we participated in the Bible Society Children’s Project
– In 2009 the Bibles went to India and Pakistan.

The Sunday School joined with the Girls Zone and the Youth Fellowship group to raise money for the Bibles.

Some of the things we did were as follows:

  • odd jobs for money
  • had a “verse-a-thon”
  • organized a curry luncheon after church
  • one of the kids, Joanne, made a CD and donated the money to buy Bibles
  • We had Nick Cole, from the Bible Society, come and speak at a service. We produced a Powerpoint about our involvement in the project and we showed it in church.

Thanks for the great effort by all the kids, the families and the church members Altogether we raised $1, 578.

OUR WORLD VISION SMILES PROJECT

Our World Vision Smiles ProjectOver 2009 we had been saving our offering to buy something special for children overseas and looked through the Word Vision Smiles Catalogue.

We decided that fresh water and food was a good present to send.

We prayed that God would use the gifts to be a blessing to children who need those things.

LOOKING AHEAD…….

Get the word out to China and South AfriciaThis year we are already planning for the 2010 Bibles Society Children’s project, Bibles for China and Africa

Again, like in previous years, the Sunday School will join up with Girls’ Zone and Youth Fellowship to participate. We will start in August, so will have more news about that later in the year

We are planning a “good old fashioned” Sunday School picnic on the 15th May. We hope that the day is fun and that the kids bring along their friends… it should be a great day.

Over first semester the younger kids (Years K-4) will be learning about Jesus, and his life on earth.

The older kids (Years 5-7) are looking at aspects of being a Christian eg. reading our Bibles, praying, church attendance and what it means to be a Christian.

We look forward to what the Lord is going to teach us through our Sunday School lessons in 2010.
