In the past year in particular the Lord has really encouraged us as we have seen the congregation grow steadily, being strengthened still further, spiritually, numerically and financially.
This year Girlzone and Sunday School have gone from strength to strength ...
Financially- our Offerings are greater and more consistent than they have ever been
Just recently the $3000 mark for our 5 Cent Coin Donations to the Bible Society
We realise, of course, that none of this is a cause for "resting on our laurels" and so this year we have focused on a promise of the Lord Jesus from John 14:12 - I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
However we understand this promise of Jesus it seems clear to me that the very least we can say is that the Lord wants to raise our level of expectation. Of course, we often try to lower our expectations and quiet our dreams because we feel that they are too unrealistic or that God wouldn't do something great through people like us.
But when I read through the pages of Scripture, I see that God delights to do ...Impossible things through improbable people to impart exceeding grace to undeserving recipients {Chip Ingram}.
We see this, for example, in the lives of people like Abraham and Sarah, David, Esther, Amos...
Thus the reality is that neither you nor I are not too unlikely nor too improbable for God to use!
The Apostle Paul prayed to the God of 'greater things'. When he concludes his prayer for the Christians at Ephesus with a wonderful expression of confidence:
Ephesians 1: 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us...
The Singer-songwriter Chris Tomlin has written a song clearly inspired by the promise of Jesus in John 14 and it has become the Church at Narellan's anthem for 2009:
"Greater things have yet to come and greater things are still to be done is this city!"
We believe that God has "greater things" to do in Narellan and Camden and Campbelltown and by who?
People of Faith ... People of Prayer ... People of the Spirit!
"United" supporters!
